Max Rome // Principal Engineer, Project Manager
Max Rome has been working on the ecological treatment of wastewater since 2010 and has been a part of over a dozen projects across the US and overseas. At Nu Max works with clients from first inquiry to project completion. On water projects Max takes care to ask what other services new infrastructure might be able to provide.
Before founding Nu, Max worked at John Todd Ecological Design and researched anaerobic digestion at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Along with his engineering background, Max brings hands-on experience with construction and landscape design. He is passionate about engineering that reaches toward a synthesis of infrastructure, ecology and community. When not working on Nu projects he is hopefully on his bike.
Max attended Deep Springs College in California and graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a bachelor's degree in civil and environmental engineering.
Jay Thrasher, P.E. // Principal Engineer, Project Manager
At Nu Jay works closely with clients throughout the design process and construction administration. Prior to founding Nu, Jay worked at John Todd Ecological Design as a Senior Project Manager. As an engineer, Jay has worked on a number of initiatives in both the U.S. and abroad.
Jay’s career started as a water and sanitation engineer serving in the United States Peace Corps Dominican Republic. He later worked for a U.S.-based firm providing design-build services of methane digesters for small-scale agricultural operations. Motivated by the potential energy in wastewater, Jay joined a team in Kumasi, Ghana as a fermentation process engineer for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation funded project - Fecal Sludge to Biodiesel. Jay’s work is motivated by the challenge of merging conventional engineering principals with complex natural processes. Jay spends a couple evenings a week tinkering with his avocado green 1978 Volkswagen Westfalia.
Jay received his master's degree in earth and environmental engineering from Columbia University in New York City and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Loyola Marymount University.
